Although Syncee is quite flexible in recognizing your import data, there are certain formatting details you need to be careful with when preparing your import files. Sometimes, a seemingly insignificant hiccup can lead to the entire file becoming unreadable to a machine. 

By following these simple best practices, you can safely avoid running into that situation:

CSV or XLS(X):

  • Use a spreadsheet program such as Open office (Libra office or Microsoft Excel) to create your CSV file.
  • You can also verify your CSV file with a Text Editor.
  • You can use to check the CSV file.
  • Save the CSV file in UTF-8 format.
  • Make sure you don't have any duplicated or empty headers.
  • Make sure you don't have any empty rows in the file or at the bottom of the file (empty rows at the bottom of the file are not visible in Excel, use a Text editor to view them).
  • The first row of your file should contain the column headers, such as Title, SKU, Description... etc.
  • The import process is easier when the file structure resembles the object structure in Shopify. You can map column headers to Shopify product fields, and you do not need to manually map them again if it's not changing.
  • Make sure all your data fields are formatted correctly.
  • You can use quotation marks ("), apostrophe ('), tabulator... etc. as the field delimiter, you can set it in the task file when adding section.
  • Keep your files at a maximum size of 100MB. (If you want to use a bigger file, you need to write us.)


  • Use simple XML format (do not use XSD or WSDL format).
  • You can check the XML files with text editors.
  • Syncee can't read the file properly if the data is not valid.
  • Use XML validator to verify the file data, like:
  • Check the product starting node of the XML. In Syncee's "file add step" you can set which tag will be the starting node of the product(s).
